Thank you, and a Book Signing!
11 months ago – Thu, May 18, 2023 at 06:55:02 AM

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!

First of all, I want to thank everyone that supported the latest round of THE ART OF... books on Kickstarter. The artists are writing away now and we'll have some more wonderful books for you early next year.

As for book signings, Tommie and I are pleased to announce that he'll be at the Warlord Games store on Saturday, May 27th from 11:30-4:30, signing copies of THE ART OF... Volume 5, talking about his Fundamentals of Painting, and providing competition-style critiques of your painted minis (which you should totally bring along). Tommie was a judge at the recent Salute50 Painting Competition, and is only to happy to help everyone keep their learning and development as painters moving forward!

Tommie will also be joined on the day by Mel Bose (aka The Terrain Tutor) who will be signing copies of his book - Terrain Essentials, as well as talking about terrain making, and maybe getting in a game or two of Bolt Action on his Big Burma Build board (try saying that three times fast).

If you are in the UK and can make it along, I know the guys will be very happy to chat about all things hobby related! Here's a link to find out more about the Warlord Games HQ store:

For those of us outside the UK, we'll keep you posted on future opportunities that may arise as the world opens up a bit more.

Cheers

Stretch Goal PDFs, Tommie Soule, and the next three Volumes of THE ART OF...
about 1 year ago – Mon, Apr 17, 2023 at 05:18:37 PM

Thank you all for your patience! We had some real-life stuff going on behind the scenes that impacted the completion of the two stretch goal PDFs from Chris and Seyni, but we are all very happy to be able to say that they are now ready for your downloading pleasure.

You can download Chris Suhre's PDF HERE.

You can download Seyni N'diaye's PDF HERE.

Tommie Soule

We've lined up two book signings for Tommie. The first will be this coming weekend at Salute 2023 in London. On Saturday you can stop by the Warlord Games booth between 11am-12pm and get your copy of THE ART OF... Volume 5 signed by Tommie before he has to dive into his judging duties at the painting competition! The second opportunity will be at the Warlord Games store on May 27th. He'll be sharing the headlines here with Mel Bose (The Terrain Tutor) who'll be signing copies of his book, Terrain Essentials. More details, like times and activities, to come!

We're also starting to finalize the date and time for Tommie's stretch goal livestream. It'll probably be on a Sunday in June, but as we get closer we'll let you know!

Volumes 7-9

This Friday, at 12pm EST, we'll be launching the next campaign to fund Volumes 7-9. Three more wonderful books as unique as the artists themselves.

To sign-up for notification, follow this link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1560579763/the-art-of-volumes-7-9

We're all very excited about these next three books, and I'm looking forward to working with the artists to bring them to completion.

Cheers

ShipQuest starts their fulfillment PLUS an announcement!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 01, 2023 at 01:53:53 PM

Greetings, everyone!

Thank you all for your patience. We had hoped to have all packages out the door already, but there was an unfortunate delay with the ShipQuest fulfillment hub in receiving their packaging order. That has been resolved and hopefully folks in the UK, EU, and rest of the World locations will start receiving their tracking number emails over the next couple of days!

And now it is time for us to turn our attention to the next three Volumes in the series! In April this year we'll launch a new campaign to fund the production of Volumes 7-9.

For Volume 7 we'll hear from spectacular artist (and winner of Best of Show at Monte San Savin 2022) – Erik Swinson! Of course we'll have more information about Erik and the planned contents of his book in the coming weeks, but until then you can check out Erik's work on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/erik_swinson/

For Volume 8 we'll dive deep into the grimy (and rusty) corners of some fantastic sci-fi settings created by Bjarni Dali! While you wait for more information, check out Bjarni's Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/bjarnidali/

And for Volume 9, we'll join Katarzyna Górska in her fantastic journey through her spectacular pieces, etheral lighting, and amazing understanding of color. You can feast your eyes on Katarzyna's Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/kaha.katarzyna.gorska/

As with each previous group of artists, I'm incredibly excited to work with this team of wonderful people! I'll be posting more information about the artists, their books, and the Kickstarter in updates over the coming weeks and months, so keep your eyes peeled!

Cheers

IMPORTANT UPDATE! - Fulfillment, Digital copies, and fun stuff!
about 1 year ago – Fri, Feb 10, 2023 at 08:07:55 AM

Ok, everyone. We're at that wonderful time when the fulfillment of the Kickstarter is just about to kick off!

Above you can see THE ART OF... Volumes 4-6 in the Kickstarter exclusive slipcase (for those who ordered it) and hundreds of boxes full of books at our US/Canada fulfillment hub - Ironheart Artisans. Alex and his team are starting the packing process later today, and the current plan has the books heading out the door and into the various carriers' systems early next week. If you are in the US or Canada and backed for physical products, you'll receive an email from Ironheart Artisans with your tracking information at some stage between now and next Tuesday (assuming all goes to plan).

Above you can see the sample packing for THE ART OF... Volumes 4-6 in KS exclusive slipcase from GamesQuest/ShipQuest who are handling all physical orders for everywhere else in the world that isn't the US or Canada (so that's anyone in the UK, EU, non-EU Europe, Australia, New Zealand or any other of the 40+ countries these books are headed to).

Currently we're expecting that these will start to head out to backers next week as well (all going to plan). Backers with physical products in these areas will receive and email with tracking info from GamesQuest/ShipQuest once it leaves their doors.

I'll do a follow-up update next week once we know things are moving smoothly.

DIGITAL DOWNLOADS!

Later today I'll be sending out download links to the PDF versions of the books via the BackerKit Digital Download system. The email from BackerKit containing the links *should* arrive today, BUT if past experience has taught me anything it's that about 10% of the emails will take anywhere up to three days to make it through. If you have pledged for the PDF versions and don't receive the email later today, please give it until Monday before messaging me here of Kickstarter. We'll definitely get you sorted out as quickly as we can.

A LITTLE BIT OF FUN!

When Tommie Soule and I started working on Volume 5, we quickly determined that capturing Tommie's passion would be about presenting Tommie's Fundamentals of Painting course in book form. Volume 5 definitely does just that, and the way Tommie has built the course is very clear and strangely concise for an approach to painting. We joked that it would be funny to see if Tommie could fit the course onto a postage stamp, and he managed to do just that... sort of.

The course contains eight incredibly important concepts (and quite a few more very important ones) and through the use of acronyms Tommie has been able to squeeze them on to these stickers (seen above). To make things simpler at both of our fulfillment hubs, we're including one of these stickers with every package, regardless of whether or not you picked up a copy of Volume 5. You can feel free to put this sticker anywhere you like, such as the lid of your wet palette or the side of your transport case, and use it as a tiny reminder of Tommie's Fundamentals of Painting course. An image of this "stamp" is also included on the quick reference pages in Volume 5 (both physical and digital).

And there we have it...

My favorite moment of each project is when the books start to arrive with backers and you all start enjoying the hard work of the last 12 months. Don't forget to post your photos of the books on social media, tag the artists and Dave Taylor Miniatures, and throw in the hashtag #theartofbooks so that we can see you enjoying them!

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support! Next week I'll have another update with an announcement of the wonderful artists who are joining us for the next stage of this journey - THE ART OF... Volumes 7-9!

Cheers

An Update on Fulfillment!
about 1 year ago – Sun, Jan 29, 2023 at 07:38:09 AM

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!

Hi folks! I wanted to drop you all a line to let you kow that we are getting very close to the fulfillment stage of the project.

In the UK, the books are with ShipQuest, and the Artcards (pictured in their snazzy envelopes above) are very close to arriving with them. Assuming there are no issues with Royal Mail or any other carrier, I think we're looking at mid-February for fulfillment to begin. Emails with tracking details will be sent out from ShipQuest once things are rolling for all backers (except the US and Canada).

In the US, the books should have landed on Friday, will go through the customs process, and then on to Ironheart Artisans for fulfillment. This should also begin around mid-February, assuming things go as smoothly as last year. Tracking emails for US and Canadian backers will be sent from Ironheart Artisans once things are on their way.

So, keep an eye out for those tracking details later this month and make sure your spam filters aren't going to block messages from the appropriate fulfillment hub :)

I'll put out another update once we've got that all underway with some exciting news about Volumes 7-9!

Cheers

Dave (and Chris, and Tommie, and Seyni)
