Created by Dave Taylor

The next three volumes in a series of books about wonderful miniatures art.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Happy Holidays! (and we're locking addresses on January 1st)
over 1 year ago – Sat, Dec 24, 2022 at 03:15:40 AM

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Wherever you are in the world, and whatever you do or do not celebrate, the team of folks behind THE ART OF... series would like to wish you all a very merry end of 2022! Chris Suhre has even finished up a great new scene called "Bah, Humbug!" (above). You can see more of it on his Instagram page HERE.

Volumes 4-6 continue to make their way around the world and we appear on track for a February fulfillment (assuming we aren't impacted by some of the severe weather events going on at the moment, but we'll keep you up to date on that should anything occur). You also have one week left to update your shipping address should you need to, before we lock them down. Of course, if you have any problems at all along the way, you can always message me here on Kickstarter.

We're also very close to nailing down our line up for Volumes 7-9, another excellent mix of artists with different approaches and instantly recognizable styles. I think around February we'll also be able to reveal these wonderful artists to you all. Very exciting!

So, take care, everyone. Enjoy the rest of 2022, and we'll see you in the New Year :)

Cheers

We'll be closing the surveys and Pre-order store very soon!
over 1 year ago – Sat, Dec 10, 2022 at 01:00:48 AM

Hello, everyone!

Great news! The books have been printed and next week they'll be packed into boxes, ready for the next step of ther journey. This will take them from Lithuania to either the UK or the US, where they'll head to our fulfillment hubs, where they'll begin preparations for fulfillment. Based on typical transit times during late December/early January, I'm expecting we'll be able to begin shipping everything out to you all in early-mid-February.

Part of the final sign-off is receiving a set of everything from the printers. Those things arrived this morning, and I have to say they look fantastic!

As well as the slipcase set of Volumes 4-6, I received the reprint of the slipcase for Volumes 1-3 (seen on the left in the photos above). This is just the slipcase, for folks who bought the first three books and wanted the slipcase after they saw how cool it looked. These slipcases will ship with a cardboard sleeve inside them to protect them from pressure on the box.

Volumes 4-6 look fantastic and I think Chris, Tommie and Seyni should be very proud of the work they've created!

The Survey, the Pre-order store, and Locking Addresses

Which brings us to the last bit of fun. There are a handful of you who haven't filled out your surveys yet, and a couple who suffered from the dreaded "payment failure" way back in June when the campaign ended. I've messaged most of you via Kickstarter, so please take a look for those messages if you aren't sure (don't forget to check your Spam or Promotions folders too).

Next Wedneday, December 14th, I'll be locking orders and closing the pre-order store, in preparation for fulfillment. Two weeks after that, I'll be locking addresses so that the fulfillment hubs will have everything they need to plan for the fulfillment :)

So, if you have moved since June, or are moving before February 1, please make sure your details are updated and good to go before New Year's Day! Just go to BackerKit.com, sign in and check your page for The Art Of... Volumes 4-6.

Thank you all for your ongoing support of this project/series. I'm excited for the things we'll see from the next group of artists featured in THE ART OF...

Cheers

Dave (and Chris and Tommie and Seyni)

Everything is off to the printers (almost)!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Oct 27, 2022 at 08:28:03 PM

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening, everyone!

Just a quick update to let you all know a few things about the progress of the project.

1. All of the files (with the exception of the Slipcase files) went off to the printers this week, which is fantastic!

I have had the screen proofs back and although there were a couple of minor tweaks to make, everything is looking good! Pictured above is the Overlay proof for the cover of Chris Suhre's book. This is the proof that makes sure all of the silver foil areas (in black) are in the right spot on the rest of the printed cover, presented at a lower opacity behind it.

2. I had intended to Lock Orders and Charge Cards through BackerKit at the start of October, but things got away from me. Instead, all orders should now be locked and I'll be hitting the Charge Cards button next week at the start of November. The Pre-order store will stay open a bit longer, just in case any of your friends want to pick up a copy of any of the books themselves. I'll also Lock Addresses around the start of January, so if you are moving between now and then, have no fear. There'll be plenty of time to make sure everything is up to date.

3. Fun Facts about the number of images in these books. As I think I've mentioned before, all images need to be converted from RGB to CMYK color profiles, and they also need to be converted to 300dpi resolution profile (from whatever is supplied to me, typically 72dpi). These three books contain a total of just over 1,000 images! Amazing for 320 pages. There's plenty of wonderful eye-candy coming your way!

And there we have it, everything is on schedule (basically) and looking good.

Plus, you have no doubt seen emails and messages about my next publishing endeavor, working with my friend Jeff Hall and almost 20 other creators from around the world. If you like looking at cool RPG table builds, come and check it out here:

Another progress update! Still on track, despite some challenges.
over 1 year ago – Thu, Sep 22, 2022 at 08:42:46 PM

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening, all!

The last four weeks have been very busy on a number of fronts, and we continue to plow forward with layout and editing! Volume 4 (above) is currently with an editor and has a handful of minor photo tweaks to take care of. It's looking great! Chris is also very pleased with how it is looking :)

Volume 5 (above) is coming along very well. I've been spending quite a bit of time picking just the right photos to illustrate the various aspects of Tommie's Fundamentals course and I should have that finished very soon. Tommie is continuing work on his Gallery section, which is doubling as a discussion on various styles of painting. This was due to be completed next week, but a recent fire in a neighboring apartment has disrupted those plans a bit. Don't worry, everyone is safe and sound, but Tommie has had to relocate for the short term. We're both working on making sure everything is finished on time, though. All of Tommie's Fundamentals course text is with an editor and coming back in batches with very few red marks – always a good sign!

And finally, Volume 6 (above) is coming along well. We're about 75% of the way through the layout and first editing pass on Seyni's book. There are some small sections of text still to be written, and a few reshoots required, but things are looking great and I'm excited to say that there's a wonderful section in the book where Seyni talks about how and why he uses color the way he does. This will make an impact on the painting of many of those who read it.

So, as I said earlier, things are still on track to hit our deadlines (always a wonderful thing when working with so many living, breathing, moving parts) and we'll let you know should anything change that.

BackerKit Surveys

You've all done a great job of filling out your surveys. Thanks for that. At the moment we have just 50 backers who need to complete their surveys and pay for their shipping etc. If you are one of these 50, please get in there as soon as you can to complete everything so that we'll have the right numbers to put into production come October.

Our Pre-order Store

If you have friends who missed out on the Kickstarter but want to pick up one, two, or all three of the books, they can do so through our Pre-order store:

https://the-art-of-volumes-4-6.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Please share this link with them, and anyone else you think might like it ;)

We'll see you all again soon for one more update before we ship things off to the printers!

Thank you all for your patience! Everyone has been working hard.
over 1 year ago – Mon, Aug 22, 2022 at 11:01:02 PM

It has been a hot minute since our last update, and I'd like to thank you all for your patience!

I wanted to make sure we had some strong progress to announce before, you know, announcing it.

I'm happy to say that as of this morning we're very close to having Volume 4 ready to go through the final edits and checking stages! You can see a spread from the section on Composition above. Chris has a small section on basing left to write, a few photos to reshoot, and I've got to do my final edit before passing it on to our editor for his final check.

Tommie sent through his completed text for the Fundamentals course section of Volume 5 (this section makes up the bulk of the book and contains decades of knowledge distilled into words and images). I hope to have most of this laid out by the end of the month (or shortly there after). He is now forging ahead with his gallery section.

Seyni has been working on various sections throughout Volume 6 and over the next week or so I should have completed the layout for Chapter One (Wargaming Armies), Chapter Two (Warbands), Chapter Three (Dioramas), and Chapter Five (Challenges). You can see a spread from the Warbands chapter below.

It is a very exciting time to be in the thick of things, with almost daily updates from the authors of both text and photos popping up in the various folders/transfer methods we use to share the content! Things are looking on track to have everything off to the printers by the end of October, which keeps us on track for an April fulfillment.

BackerKit Surveys

You've all done a great job of filling out your surveys. Thanks for that. At the moment we have just 86 backers who need to complete their surveys and pay for their shipping etc. If you are one of these 86, please get in there as soon as you can to complete everything so that we'll have the right numbers to put into production come October.

Our Pre-order Store

If you have friends who missed out on the Kickstarter but want to pick up one, two, or all three of the books, they can do so through our Pre-order store:

Please share this link with them, and anyone else you think might like it ;)

We'll see you all again soon for a new update as we complete sections and near the end of the middle stages of this project!
